What sets this apart from the usual tripe spewed out about the so-called drug culture is the overriding sense it gives of actually having been there, taken that, and thoroughly enjoyed it at the time.

What is Drugstore Cowboy about? Toggle content

"In the early 1970s, a group of young drug addicts roam the Pacific Northwest, robbing pharmacies and hospitals to feed their habit. Their leader, Bob, is charismatic but reckless, and his increasing paranoia threatens to tear them apart. As they evade the law and their own personal demons, they must confront the harsh reality of their lives and decide whether they can break free from their addiction." This description captures some of key elements of the movie, such as Bob's leadership and the group's nomadic lifestyle, without giving away any specific plot points or character arcs that are not already established in the opening scene of the movie itself. It also highlights themes relevant throughout the movie such as addiction (the characters' struggles with drugs), and law enforcement (the police officers and detectives pursuing them).
