What is Dead Poets Society about? 
Dead Poets Society is a 1989 drama film directed by Peter Weir and starring Robin Williams. The movie is set in 1959 at Welton Academy, an all-male preparatory boarding school in Vermont. Todd Anderson, a shy and introverted student, is assigned Neil Perry, one of Welton's most promising students, as his roommate. They become friends with Knox Overstreet, Richard Cameron, Steven Meeks, Gerard Pitts, and Charlie Dalton. The boys are introduced to John Keating, their new English teacher who uses unorthodox teaching methods to inspire them to think for themselves and seize the day (Carpe Diem). Keating encourages them to reject the conformity and traditions that have been ingrained in them by Welton Academy. He uses poetry to teach them about self-expression and to embrace their own uniqueness. The film follows the boys' journey as they learn to embrace their individuality and challenge the status quo under Keating's guidance.
