The Eremites

The Eremites tells the story of Albert, a man in his mid-30s who still lives under the watchful eye of his overbearing mother, Marianne., who wants to protect him from the harsh life on the isolated mountain farm where they live. Despite her efforts, Albert is drawn back to the farm, where he sneaks back to spend time in secret. When his father dies in an accident, Marianne keeps the truth from Albert, fearing he will take over his father's duties, and buries the body on the mountain. As her strength fades, she confesses to Albert and asks for his help, but he has now settled in the valley and is torn between his loyalty to his mother and his new life with Paola, a Hungarian guest worker he has fallen in love with. With the first snow falling, Albert must make a difficult decision about his future.
