In the midst of the Cold War, a young Soviet woman named Katya is recruited by the Americans to spy on the Kremlin elite. Her mission takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with her target, the charismatic Sasha, and decides to defect to the United States with him. But just as they're about to leave, Katya mysteriously disappears, leaving Sasha alone in America. Thirty years later, Sasha returns to a post-communist Russia, determined to uncover the truth behind Katya's vanishing.
