Peppered with fun-to-spot cameos (can you spot Williem Dafoe?), the parody-satire script works well with Depp's adept handling of the titular bad boy.

What is Cry-Baby about? Toggle content

Cry-Baby is a musical comedy film set in 1950s Baltimore, directed by John Waters. The film follows the story of Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker, a charismatic bad boy who leads a gang of "drapes," and Allison Vernon-Williams, a beautiful and wealthy high school student who falls in love with him. Cry-Baby's unique ability to shed a single tear excites all the girls in school, including Allison, who is tired of being a "square." The two fall in love and face challenges from their different social backgrounds and Allison's jealous boyfriend, Baldwin. The film features a colorful cast of characters, including Pepper, Mona "Hatchet Face" Malnorowski, Wanda Woodward, Milton Hackett, and Allison's grandmother, who run a charm school. Cry-Baby takes Allison to a party at Turkey Point, a local hangout spot for the drapes, where she receives a "drape" makeover and sings a duet onstage with Cry-Baby. The film explores themes of teenage rebellion, love, and social class, set against the backdrop of 1950s rock music and fashion.
