One of a kind. Harrowing subject matter presented with a nightmarish intensity and a mastery of film technique.

"Come and See" is a powerful and harrowing film that follows the story of a young Belarusian boy named Flyora who joins the Soviet partisan forces during World War II. Against the backdrop of brutal warfare and Nazi occupation, Flyora's journey becomes one of survival, loss, and ultimately, a quest for humanity. The film begins with Flyora and his friend digging up an abandoned rifle to join the partisans, but their plans are thwarted when they are spotted by a German reconnaissance aircraft. Despite his mother's protests, Flyora is conscripted into the partisans, where he performs menial tasks. When the partisans move on, Flyora is left behind and meets Glasha, a young nurse working with the partisans. Together, they travel to Flyora's village only to find it deserted and covered in flies. As they search for answers, they come across Rubezh, a partisan fighter who takes them to meet the surviving villagers. It is there that Flyora learns of his family's deaths and that he should not have dug up the rifles. Stricken with guilt, Flyora attempts suicide but is saved by Glasha and the villagers. Rubezh takes Flyora on a mission to find food at a nearby warehouse but they are met with German troops. During their retreat, two companions are killed by a land mine.
