Cold War II

In this action-packed sequel, Commissioner Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) is faced with a traumatic decision when his wife is kidnapped and he is ordered to release a former police constable, Joe Lee (Eddie Peng), in exchange for her safe return. However, things take a turn for the worse when Joe escapes and Lau is criticized by the media and politicians. Fearing that the police have been infiltrated, Lau turns to ICAC Principal Investigator Billy Cheung (Aarif Rahman) to form a separate squad to track down the culprits. Meanwhile, Deputy Police Commissioner MB Lee (Tony Leung) is confronted by his fugitive son and former police commissioner Peter Choi (Chang Kuo-chu), who is revealed to be the mastermind behind the troubles in the previous film. Choi's goal is to remove Lau and place his own followers into positions of power during the next election. As tensions rise, a legislator named Oswald Kan (Chow Yun-fat) becomes convinced that Lau is being controlled and tells his pupils to investigate. One of his pupils, Bella Au (Janice Man), decides to secretly follow Lee and Choi, but is killed in a chain collision caused by Choi's car. Lau arrives to investigate and a shoot-out occurs, resulting in Joe's injury and Choi's escape. Lau's independent squad finds the location of Choi's remaining henchmen and the stolen police van. Lee convinces several senior police officers to sign a petition for Lau's removal but is eventually convinced to take command of the operation to apprehend Choi's henchmen. The operation is successful, but with Choi's henchmen dead, this takes a heavy emotional tax on Lee. In the end, Kan and Lau report Lee's crimes and those of his accomplices including former commissioner Choi are so important to arrest without destabilizing society.
