City of Lies

City of Lies is a crime drama movie based on the true story of the murder investigations of rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. in Los Angeles in the 1990s. The movie follows retired LAPD detective Russell Poole and investigative reporter Darius "Jack" Jackson as they team up to unravel a web of corruption and lies surrounding the unsolved murders. The movie starts with Jackson being assigned to write an article about the murder of The Notorious B.I.G., which leads him to meet with Poole, who had been involved in the original investigation. Poole reveals his theory that Suge Knight, CEO of Death Row Records, paid corrupt LAPD officers to commit the murders and cover them up. As we see flashbacks from Poole's perspective, we learn that he was tasked with investigating not only Biggie's murder but also an unrelated police shooting involving a white officer killing an off-duty black police officer, Kevin Gaines, just weeks after Biggie's death. We witness how these cases are entwined due to racial tensions within both law enforcement and gang culture in LA at that time while also highlighting issues within policing referencing other prominent Los Angeles incidents such as Rodney King's beating and OJ Simpson's trial around those times leading to pressure from upper management on Russel Pooles investigation into Biggie Smalls death . As Poole dives deeper into his investigation during both timelines presented here (the 1990 case developments/2015 article) he faces opposition from some powerful people who have conflicting interests regarding results derived from or pertaining said research - including certain members associated directly & indirectly connected with organized crime groups involved too!
