In a small French village, Vianne Rocher, a free-spirited single mother, and her young daughter Anouk move in and open a chocolate shop during Lent. Despite the townsfolk's initial resistance, Vianne's delectable creations and unique ability to sense their hidden cravings gradually win them over. However, the mayor, Comte de Reynaud, opposes her business due to its tempting nature during Lent. Vianne befriends Josephine, who's being abused by her husband Serge, and helps her find the courage to leave him. A group of Romani people arrives in town and forms a bond with Vianne.
