What is Barbarella about? Toggle content

Barbarella, a space adventurer, is tasked with retrieving Durand Durand, an inventor who created a powerful weapon, to prevent mass destruction. She crashes on a planet and is rescued by Mark Hand, who offers her a ride to her ship in exchange for sex. Barbarella relents and enjoys it but admits that she understands why sex is considered primitive on Earth. She then crashes into a labyrinth inhabited by outcasts and meets Pygar, a blind angel. Pygar introduces her to Professor Ping, who repairs her ship. Pygar and Barbarella are captured by Sogo's Black Queen and concierge, who describe the Mathmos, an energy source powered by evil thoughts. Barbarella is placed in a cage and rescued by Dildano, leader of the local underground. Dildano gives her an invisible key to the Black Queen's chamber of dreams, where she sleeps. After returning to Sogo, Barbarella is captured again and placed in an "Exsexsive Machine" that induces fatal sexual pleasure.
