At River's Edge

At River's Edge (Ogawa no Hotori) is a historical drama film set in feudal Japan, following the story of a loyal samurai, Sakunosuke Inui (played by Noriyuki Higashiyama), who receives an order from his clan's chamberlain to kill another samurai, Sakuma Morie (played by Kataoka Ainosuke VI), who is married to Sakunosuke's younger sister, Tazu (played by Rinko Kikuchi). Despite his inner conflicts, Sakunosuke must choose between his duty as a samurai and his loyalty to his family. The film explores themes of honor, loyalty, and sacrifice in a society governed by strict social hierarchy and tradition.
