In the gritty city of Ash, a chance encounter between a medical student and a steelworker leads to a decade-long correspondence fueled by their shared love of Tolstoy's Resurrection. As their lives take different paths, they find themselves entangled in a web of passion, hatred, and murder. A young police officer is determined to solve the case, but the truth remains elusive. Ten years later, the steelworker returns, bringing with him his handicapped girlfriend, and the doctor has become a respected member of society. But the past refuses to stay buried, and the characters must confront their darkest desires and make a choice between salvation and destruction.
