What is Alps about? Toggle content

Alps is a 2011 Greek drama film directed by Giorgos Lanthimos, his third feature film after Dogtooth (2009). The film is about a group of people who start a business to offer their services as stand-ins for the recently deceased to help their grieving relatives cope with their loss. The group's members, who operate under strict rules, take on various roles and pretend to be the deceased in front of the family, repeating their habits and mannerisms. However, things take a turn when one of the members, a nurse named Monte Rosa (Angeliki Papoulia), grows attached to her role as a tennis player and starts to cross the boundaries set by the group's leader, Mont Blanc (Aris Servetalis). As she becomes more emotionally invested in her role, she begins to disregard the rules and eventually gets kicked out of the group. The film explores themes of grief, loss, identity, and the blurred lines between reality and acting.
