What is Secondhand Lions about?
Secondhand Lions follows the adventures of Walter, a shy young boy who is sent to live with his eccentric great-uncles on a Texas farm. The men, Hub and Garth, are rumored to have a secret fortune and live life on their own terms. Despite their initial reluctance to care for Walter, they begin to open up to him and share stories of their exotic past. Walter discovers that his uncles have a room filled with money and becomes the target of a supposed private investigator who claims they are bank robbers. After Stan attacks Walter, the old lioness that Walter has befriended defends him, but dies of heart failure. Walter leaves his mother and returns to his uncles, who involve themselves in his education and live carefully until their deaths in a failed stunt in their biplane. The film ends with a man arriving at the farm with his young son, revealing that he heard about Hub and Garth's deaths on the radio and recognizing them as the two Americans in tales told by his grandfather, "a very wealthy sheikh."
