A Serious Man

A Serious Man is a dark comedy-drama film that follows the story of Larry Gopnik, a Jewish physics professor living in Minnesota in 1967. His life is turned upside down when his wife Judith leaves him for another man, his son Danny gets into trouble for smoking marijuana, and his daughter Sarah is constantly washing her hair and skipping school. To make matters worse, Larry's brother Arthur is homeless and sleeps on his couch while working on a mysterious notebook called the "Mentaculus." As Larry struggles to make sense of his life, he turns to three different rabbis for guidance. Their responses lead him on a journey of faith, family, delinquency, and mortality. Along the way, Larry faces a series of absurd and surreal events, including a run-in with a South Korean student who offers him a bribe and an encounter with a naked woman sunbathing in his neighbor's backyard. The film explores themes of identity, religion, marriage, parenting, and the search for meaning in life. It features an all-star cast, including Michael Stuhlbarg, Richard Kind, and Fred Melamed, among others.
