In the final days of World War I, a young soldier named Edouard Péricourt saves the life of his comrade Albert Maillard during a senseless attack ordered by Lieutenant Pradelle. The two men are left to grapple with the trauma of war and the loss of their fellow soldiers, while also trying to find their place in a changing world. As they struggle to survive, they come up with a daring plan to scam the bereaved families of the war dead and turn their misfortune into a lucrative enterprise. But their scheme may be putting them in danger, as they become embroiled in a web of deceit and corruption. Will they be able to pull off their plan and escape the consequences, or will their past catch up with them?
