What is 71: Into the Fire about?
"71: Into the Fire" is a South Korean war movie based on a true story. In 1950 during the Korean War Pohang was defended by 71 untrained soldiers. The North Korean army was quickly advancing towards Pohang while the South Korean army was retreating towards the Nakdong River due to being outnumbered. The 71 soldiers were left alone to guard the city against the North Korean forces. The commander of this group was Oh Jung Bum, who had only participated in one real battle. They had very little ammunition but still managed to hold back many North Korean soldiers long enough for allied forces to arrive. They faced an incredible number of North Korean soldiers with only a few bullets, but they fought bravely and fortified themselves in the school building. Although they were young and inexperienced, they were able to inflict devastating casualties on the North Koreans. This movie is a heroic and heartbreaking tale of the bravery of these 71 soldiers who fought for their nation's freedom and was led by Oh Jung Bum, a young commander who had only participated in a single battle.
