...counters the inspirational teacher cliches with a bumbling charm that’s boosted considerably by a first-rate performance from the scene-stealing penguin.

It’s a wonder, really, that more British films, in a nation of animal lovers, don’t go the cute pet route, because this works surprisingly well to soften tough subject matter.

What's unexpected is how moving the story is, and real-life footage of the penguin at the end is guaranteed to tug on the heartstrings.

"Livströtta Tom Michell (Steve Coogan) har mer eller mindre gett upp allt som har med känslor att göra. Han är engelsklärare på snofsig privatskola för rikemanssöner i Buenos Aires 1976."

Till stor del fungerar filmen tack vare Coogan. Rollen är som klippt och skuren för honom; Tom är inte särskilt älskvärd, men har en tvär charm som gör att man vill se honom lyckas ändå.
