...The Mummy's entertainment value lies in its jokey tone, with Sommers' script never taking its tongue out of its cheek.

Set in 1920s Egypt, the film stars Brendan Fraser, who makes for an effective enough hero, as a Foreign Legion soldier-turned-explorer in search of a lost, treasure-laden city of the dead.

There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it.
