In the final months of World War II, a young Japanese intelligence officer named Hiroo Onoda is sent to a small island in the Philippines to wage a guerrilla war against the incoming American forces. Trained to prioritize his mission over his own life, Onoda refuses to surrender even after the Japanese empire surrenders, convinced that his duty is more important than anything else. He spends 10,000 days in the jungle, fighting a secret war that only he knows about, until he finally surrenders decades later.
