Darby Harper, a high school student, has a unique ability to see ghosts after a near-death experience. She becomes introverted and spends her time counseling lonely spirits, preferring their company over her living peers. When Capri, the most popular girl at school, unexpectedly dies in a hair straightening accident, Darby is asked to intervene and convince Capri's friends to continue with their planned "Sweet 17" party.
