Dangerous Beauty

Dangerous Beauty tells the story of Veronica Franco, a young woman living in 16th century Venice who cannot marry her nobleman lover, Marco, due to her family's poverty. Veronica's mother suggests she become a courtesan, a highly paid, cultured prostitute, to secure her family's financial future. Initially repelled by the idea, Veronica eventually embraces it and becomes one of the most sought-after courtesans in Venice, impressing powerful men with her beauty, wit, and compassion. However, her relationship with Marco remains complicated, as he struggles to accept her profession and she refuses to give it up. When the city appeals to France for aid during the Fourth Ottoman–Venetian War, Veronica is asked to seduce the King of France and secure a military alliance, which she does. But her relationship with Marco continues to deteriorate as he accuses her of enjoying being a courtesan and prioritizing her profession over their love.
